Running matches

Updated Oct 15, 2026

This article is for tournament staff running matches in head-to-head formats: single and double elimination, round robin and Swiss. Race, Points and Battle Royale are scored on the stage itself and work differently, see the last section.

You need to be the organization owner or on that tournament's staff list to do anything here.

Match statuses

StatusMeaning
UpcomingNot playable yet. The round is not open or a feeding match has not finished.
LiveBoth sides are known and the match can be played and reported.
DisputedBoth sides reported and the results differ.
CompletedThe result is settled.
Not neededSkipped. For example, a grand final reset that the winners bracket side made unnecessary.

The Matches tab lists every match in four groups: Needs attention, Live, Upcoming and Completed. A match lands in Needs attention when the reports differ ("Reports differ"), only one side has reported ("Awaiting confirmation"), a player has called an admin ("Admin called"), or its map details are missing or described differently by the two sides. The same list is on each stage's own Matches tab.

How a result is reached

Each side reports the match once, from its own side. A report gives the main score: maps won in a series, or the game's own score in a single game. It can also describe each map, but that part is optional.

  • When both sides have reported and the main scores agree, the match completes and the winner advances.
  • When they differ, the match becomes Disputed and staff are notified.
  • A dispute does not lock anything. Both sides can keep correcting their report until they agree.
  • Map details never decide a match and never cause a dispute. If the two sides describe a map differently, the match is flagged for staff, but the result stands.

The main score always decides. Players cannot report a score the format cannot end on, such as a draw in a best-of bracket. See Match formats.

If you turned on Require a screenshot with every reported result in the tournament settings, each report needs a screenshot attached to the match, or the side must say it has none. Proof is visible to the two sides and to staff. The player side is described in Disputes.

Entering or correcting a result yourself

Staff can set the main score of any match whose sides are both known. This is the normal way to settle a dispute, enter a result nobody reported, or fix a mistake.

  1. Open the match from the Matches tab or the stage's bracket.
  2. If the sides reported, the Reported results card shows each report. Choose Use this to copy one into the form.
  3. Enter or adjust the score in the Result card.
  4. Optionally choose Add a reason. It is kept in the match's History.
  5. Choose Save result.

If you change the winner of a match that has already completed, the editor warns you with Change the recorded winner? and lists the later matches that will be reset. In an elimination bracket those matches go back to pending and their reports and results are cleared. If the winner stays the same, nothing downstream moves.

Revert to pending clears the score and both reports and reopens the match. Matches that depended on it are cleared too.

Every change is recorded in the match's History with the old and new values, so a corrected score always shows what it used to be.

When a result can no longer be edited

You can correct a match from any earlier round, until one of these applies, checked in this order:

  1. The tournament is finished or cancelled. Reopen the tournament.
  2. The stage was cancelled. Restore the stage.
  3. The next stage has started. Reset the next stage first.
  4. The stage is completed. Use Reopen on the stage.

Some matches are never editable: byes, matches decided by a disqualification, and in Swiss a round whose next round has already been paired. For that last case, use Delete latest round first.

Forfeits

Open the match and use Forfeit. Choose one side, or Forfeit both sides (no-show).

  • One side forfeits: the other side wins and advances. It counts as a loss, marked FF in standings. In round robin and Swiss the side that forfeited earns no league points for it.
  • Both sides forfeit: both take a loss and nobody moves on. Whoever the next match was waiting for goes through unopposed.

Players cannot forfeit or claim a no-show. It is always the organizer's call.

Disqualifications

Disqualify from the stage's Participants tab, in the row menu, with a required reason. The participant's open matches are lost, opponents advance, results already played stand, and they rank last and never advance. It cannot be undone. In a Battle Royale stage, a disqualified participant leaves every game still to be played and is never drawn into a lobby again. Disqualification is not available for Race and Points stages. There you set the participant's result to DSQ in the stage itself. See Battle Royale.

Admin calls and chat

Players in a match room can use Call Admin to ask for staff. Staff see it live in the dashboard and the match shows as "Admin called" under Needs attention. Open the room, deal with it, then choose Mark handled (Mark admin call handled). The call also clears itself when the match completes.

Match chat only exists if Enable chat is on for the tournament, and that switch cannot be changed once the tournament has started. For what players expect when they call for help, see Match day.

Race, Points and Battle Royale

These formats have no reports to agree on and no disputes. Results are entered on the stage's Times, Scores or Games tab. On the Times and Scores tabs, save one row with its save button (or Ctrl+Enter, Cmd+Enter on a Mac, in its field), or every edited row at once with Save all. The rows follow the current placings whenever nothing is left unsaved, and hold still while you are typing. Times are typed as digits only and fill HH:MM:SS.mmm from the right: 123456 is 00:01:23.456. In a Points stage players can report their own score only if you turn on self-reporting. In a Battle Royale game, choose Enter results on the game's row and type in each placement and kills, using the end-screen screenshots players upload (End screens in that dialog). Only Fortnite games can be scored from a replay instead. See Scoring Fortnite games from replays.

When every match is done, you finish the stage yourself. Nothing completes a stage automatically. See Finalize and payouts.
